Prep for Softball

Tonight, we found GO’s baseball bat on sale at Wal-Mart.  Since her season starts soon, we decided to go ahead and get it.  But not until she got a few practice swings in!

We are having to REALLY work on WHY we don’t swing the bat inside the apartment!

Fernbank Museum of Natural History

FernbankMeritBadge (8)

We took a quick jaunt today down to Fernbank Museum of Natural History, in order for the boys to work on the Native American Merit Badge for Boy Scouts.  Queen and Princess came, along with Quilting Bee and her three kiddos.

The boys needed to visit a museum or other site that had Native American Artifacts.  Fernbank has recently opened a new exhibit of their own in the Curator’s Corner called “De Soto’s Footsteps: New Archaeological Evidence from Georgia“.  I remember working at the Museum, back when the bead was first found and the excitement surrounding the find.

It was a great visit back, and I met a few old friends – but being able to experience the working on a Merit Badge, along with friends and their sons – that we’ve been with for over six years…  I love Scouting for that reason.  It not only builds boys into men, but families and friendships.

Crossover Ceremony

Crossover2013 (90)

My Middle Son became a Boy Scout tonight.  *sniff, sniff*  In a lot of ways it was a comedy of errors for us as adults – buildings almost caught on fire, plans had to be changed at the last minute…but it worked out perfect, just like always.  I love Scouting, and I love what it has done for my boys, but tonight (more than ever) I realized what it has done for me.  These are MY friends, not just “the parents of my kid’s friends”.

B10 crossed over 2 years ago, and tonight his troop welcomed CW and another boy (Quilting Bee’s oldest son).  It has been an interesting seven years with Cub Scouts (so interesting, I’m sticking with it for at least one more year, as B10 serves as a Pack 100 Den Chief).

I love all these boys:

First Rice Cereal

I waited and waited, and finally Otto and I decided it was time to try rice cereal with Went.

"I am clapping with GLEE!"

“I am clapping with GLEE!”

Oh…My…Goodness – he LOVED it.  He has been showing signs of being VERY interested in the food that we are eating for over a month, but we held off.  Today he ate like a pro!  Very little mess and the look of wonder on his face as he tasted rice cereal was adorable.

I wish I could freeze time, but he’s growing up.  And I’m loving every minute of it.

Cold Day

It was freezing today, but we had to go to the park (in sleet) to get CW’s last remaining Cub Scout thing accomplished (so he could get Super Achiever, like B10).  GO *refused* to sit in the warm car with B10 and Went, insisting on following me, Quilting Bee and CW out onto the cold playground.

CW took off his jacket to do some of the requirements (and being all boy-like in his “I’m not cold!”).  GO put his jacket on (on top of her own).  Personally, I think she looks like a Hobbit.

Afterwards, the big boy Caterpillars went home to work on schoolwork, while I took GO and Went to have a celebratory birthday lunch at school with Princess (she turned 10!).

Tampa Zoo

"Barbra Manatee, Manatee, Manatee. You are the one for me, one for me, one for me!"

“Barbra Manatee, Manatee, Manatee. You are the one for me, one for me, one for me!”

We love critters at our house (fishy ones and land ones), so even though it was raining, we took in the Tampa Zoo.  That turned out to be a GREAT idea, since there were less than 50 people in the entire zoo.  We were told the animals might be indoors, since their sleeping quarters were open to them, but the only animals we didn’t see were the leopards.

Everything else was out playing in the rain with us!  It was a steady drizzle, but not *too* cold.  Even Went had a fine time!

Overall, a wonderful zoo, and a lot of fun.  (Not to mention, we ended up sending picture to Otto with various VeggieTale lyrics!)

Clearwater Marine Aquarium

ClearwaterMarineAquarium (40)

Today I took the Caterpillars to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where Winter (the Dolphin from “Dolphin Tale“) lives.  It took a few minutes to convince GO that there wasn’t anything scary there (it didn’t help that the entrance was straight into the “large critters with TEETH” section), but by the end she was loving it as much as her brothers.

Meeting Winter was cool – she acted like a little kid to me, playing with her toys and such.  I loved learning about the turtles – and seeing how well they had adapted to captivity.  The animals on “display” are ones that can never be released into the wild.  CMA does most of it’s work behind the scenes, preparing animals to return to nature.

The kids area was well thought out and pretty awesome.  We got to see a pufferfish being fed!  Overall, totally worth the entrance fee (well, worth it when we had a coupon for BOGO).

Beach Day

This is the life!

This is the life!

I took the Caterpillars to the beach today – it was Went’s first time, and all four loved it.

I adore my Caterpillars and experiencing these things with them.  They had a blast playing in the water and collecting shells.  I was beside myself with how much of his Marine Biology class CW remembered (and was so excited about sharing with me).  Overall, one of those perfect days!

1000 Days to Disney!

1000daystodisney.wordpress.com

Actually, about 850 Days to Disney, but 1000 sounds better for a blog title!

MeandLibertyMinnie

I have launched a new blog – with posts already scheduled for the entire month of February (approx 2-3 per week).  Head over to read my introduction and soon you’ll “meet” my Travel Agent (I think she was trained by Minnie Mouse, herself!).

On Mondays, I’ll post about Pixie Dust and how to spread it!

On Thursdays, I’ll post about how I’m already Getting Prepared (and how you can, too, even if YOUR next Disney Trip is years away!).

Hopefully, more set posts to come.  Come follow me!  😀

I *AM* a Quilter!

Our Bed!

Our Bed!

Look what I finished!  I am so super proud of myself.  I choose the fabrics, ironed them, cut them to the right size, stitched them together, ironed them again, pinned on the batting/backing (which was ironed), did the QUILTING on a long arm machine, pieced my own binding, ironed THAT, then put on the binding.

YAY!  I am so super excited with what I’ve accomplished.  I decided I wanted to do something, then stuck through it the entire way, and in the process discovered I craft I adore.  I’m very lucky, in that two of my closest friends are quilters.  Auntie M lives to far away to help me with the actual quilting (though she was there in spirit and encouragement), while QB graciously opened her quilting studio and helped me with every question I had and walked me through every step (including making me coffee and holding my hand when I made mistakes).

I have already purchased the fabric for my next two quilts.  I am grateful and blessed to find something I love.
