The Game

Well, I’m not going to pretend I’m happy with the way the game went.  We lost – by 3 – which is better, I suppose, then a horrible beating by the Dawgs.  But I enjoyed the friends and family that came over to join us for the event.  Otto is a UGA graduate, so our own home is “divided” in loyalty.  Both the families that came to see the game are UGA fans, so the fact that Boo Sheep and my niece/nephew could come was awesome.  They might be Ole Miss fans, but if it’s not Ole Miss – I can count on them to be LSU all the way!

I was proud of this clever little set-up. Two of my tall chairs plus a stool gave the viewers a place to put their plates/drinks. (I had two of these areas setup.)

The menu for the day was 1/2 Cajun and 1/2 Southern.  I did chicken wings in the crockpot, Cheez-It Mix, corn chips and salsa, carrots/celery and ranch dip, potato chips and spinach dip, chicken jambalaya, sasuage jambalaya, French bread, pork BBQ on small buns and homemade potato salad.  Plus cookies and cupcakes for dessert.

It’s a slow process to begin to allow people into your home.  I’ve wanted a place for so long to open my doors and invite others to come along side us to live life.  I had to let go of trying to make everything perfect inside the house and simply enjoy those who came to be with us.

The Thin Strands

Today was a hard day – I found myself crying for no good reason.

I’m sure there are reasons that are valid, such as the fact that I’m not sleeping at all (Went has been waking up every 2-3 hours for the last week).  This tired feeling goes to my bones.  It could be the fact that for some reason, I’ve been missing my Mimi (my grandmother) since Grandparents Day at GO’s school.  Just missing her and wishing she was here to hug and to be able to call her and tell her stories about the Caterpillars.

But mostly, I think it’s because I’ve stepped outside my little box and it seems as though I can clearly see exactly how fragile all the pieces of our lives are.  The thin strands that are holding everything together seem pulled so taut, as if they will break at any moment.

I spent a few hours cleaning the garage.  Emptying boxes and trying to make things perfect.

Nothing can be perfect.

My furry babies are curled up on my lap and leaning against my legs, all three of them sitting like a puddle of purr.  I want to freeze this moment.  Pray nothing changes..

Went turns 1 on Tuesday.

Planning his party seems final.  He’s growing up.  We all are aging.  Time is moving forward.

A spider spun a web from my van to the bush beside our house.  A big spider.  My gentle oldest son spent almost a full minute carefully breaking the strands of her web, so she could crawl back to the safety of the branches and leaves.  So she could go somewhere better and spin her home.

I feel like God is doing that to us.  Carefully breaking strands of our lives, untethering us from this world – in order that we might move closer to His safety.  Our web is shaking, becoming unsteady, and the risk of falling seems ever present.

I’m a Mummy Spider on that web, carrying babies on my back.

Rushing for the branch.

My world is changing, even as it remains the same.  I want to be happy, to dream, to watch my Caterpillars dream.  I feel wholly inadquate to lead and guide them.  To rebuild a web, in a better place.

The spider has no idea that the van will move – ripping apart her home, possibly sending her to her squished demise.

I am scurrying fast, and praying I can find shelter before my world collapses.

Keep on, move quickly, be steady.

Then spin again.

Happy Fall!

Have you ever had one of those days where you never stopped moving – but felt like you accomplished nothing?  Yep, that was my day…

BUT – I took pictures, to prove to myself SOMETHING got done.

Today, I finished my fall wreath for the door! Isn’t it pretty and welcoming?  😀

GO also helped me fill our Boo-Bags for October 1st.  My goal is to deliver them all on the first day of the month, to have plenty of time for the neighborhood to play the game.  It’s a cute “game” where you leave a surprise bag of goodies on a neighbor’s porch, along with a poem and a picture.  That neighbor has been “Boo-ed” and within two days is secretly suppose to “Boo” two more neighbors.  And they hang the picture next to their door, so you don’t get “Boo-ed” twice.  (In order to share the fall-love.)  Since I don’t know if this neighborhood has ever played, I figured I would hedge my bets and give out eight bags to start with.  Hopefully, enough people will be excited that it gets going.  I KNOW one neighbor will be thrilled!  (She might have been doing it all along!)

The Cookie Cutters

I managed to do eight bags for less than $20, thanks to great deals (and coupons) at Michael’s and the Dollar Tree.  Plus, I had the cookie cutters and the candy jars from last year.  And, I’m determined to USE my stash of cool stuff before I buy any more cool stuff!

Want to “Boo” in your neighborhood?  Be the one who gets it started!  I used this link: http://christmas.organizedhome.com/crafts/halloween/boo-youve-been-booed-poem-signs and printed out the black cat version (mostly, because I love cats)!

Also, I did a load of laundry and dishes.  And cleaned off about 1/2 of my kitchen table.  No pictures of that.

OH!  And I bought 40 rolls of toilet paper…but you don’t need photos of that either.  😉

Grandparent’s Day 2013

GO was lucky enough to have three grandparents visit for Grandparent’s Day at school!  This was her fourth year (see: 2010, 2011), and the theme was adorable!  This year, I packed a fruit/cheese tray and Chick-fil-A for lunch, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.  GO got to sit at a table with her grandparents and cousin KY (and KY’s Grammy).  So it was a family event all around.

The Birthday Celebration Starts NOW

He’s not one (yet), but with Granddaddy and Minnie Mouse in town, we had the first “celebration” for Went’s birthday.

There was also a nifty cow that dances and bounces when you press his nose.  It freaks out the kittens and makes Went giggle, so you know we had fun with it in our house!

Number Seven

Dear Number Seven,

You don’t exist.  You may never exist.  But this is an important letter I want you to have someday, if you do appear.

You are not an accident.  Your Papa and I prayed for a very long time and thought very hard after your big brother, Went, was born about if we were going to ever have any more caterpillars.  And it came down to this – both of us couldn’t imagine telling God “No” right now.  And when a Mummy and a Papa both feel like they are hearing the same thing from God, well, that’s how you can trust it’s true.  Mummy has lots of things that are pretty messed up inside, so the chances of you ever appearing are pretty small.  And in a couple of years, when Mummy and Papa are older, we’ll probably do a lot more praying.

But right now – your potential existence is in God’s hands, not ours.

If you ever arrive, you’ll meet your six amazing brothers and sisters.

OPM is beautiful and smart and loves books and theatre.

CAM is beautiful and smart and loves to right the wrongs in the world.

B10 loves Jesus, bugs and lizards (in that order).

CW loves people and is one of the most loyal kids I know.

GO always has a smile on her face and a song in her heart.

Went is about to turn 1, and has fiery red hair and a temper to match – but a giggly heart and smile for everyone.

You – we don’t know much about what you will be.  But this is what you WON’T be –

You WON’T be a mistake.

You WON’T be an afterthought.

You WON’T be an accident.

You WON’T be a burden.

You will simply be an incredible surprise gift from God.  And you will be loved and cherished as such.

Love,

Mummy Butterfly  )i(

Soccer Girl

GO has started her first season of soccer.  It is so funny to see her on the field, and it’s pretty obvious that she’s going to be more of a T-Ball girl (or cheerleading – which we try next).  It’s a co-ed team, with only one other little girl playing (who we know from T-Ball, so that is nice).  She does *great* at practice, when each kid runs the drills and has their own ball to work with.  But when we get to the game…  Well, the idea of throwing elbows to fight her way into the center of the pack where the little boys are just kicking at each other…  She will stand to the side and kind of stare at them, like “Really?  THIS is what we are doing?” She likes it, and keeps telling us she can’t wait for her next game, but the time on the field is spent watching and observing, with the occasional burst of energy into the nexus of the group to give a solid kick to the ball.

Running hard! (I think it was time for her water break!)
