New Year’s Eve

Uncle Batman and Aunt K came over to celebrate New Year’s Eve with us.  I made BBQ chicken, rice, peas and rolls for dinner, then Uncle Batman pulled out his “gifts” for the night.  FIREWORKS!

(All fireworks were purchased in this state – and legal for this state…just my disclaimer.)

I love our cul-de-sac, it’s perfect for fireworks and we all have a safe place to stand/sit.  We had a great “show”, Aunt K and I have a favorite – Mother Nature (aka: Precious Stones).  Very pretty!

When the pyrotechnics were done, we headed inside to play games – drink sparkling cider and eat Christmas cookies.  We introduced Aunt K and Uncle Batman to Settlers of Catan, one of our favorite games.  It was the first time B10 has really been old enough to play.

At midnight, we didn’t even turn on the TV to see the ball/peach drop.  We paused our game, counted down, gave hugs and kisses, then went back to spending time with friends.

A perfect end and a perfect beginning to a year.

Visiting Cousins

Today one of Hubby’s brothers and his family were able to come by and visit.  The older kids played in B10 and CW’s room, while GO and their new baby hung out with the grown-ups (GO did NOT like that…the closed bedroom door caused more than one sad face).

We exchanged Christmas gifts and chatted for a bit while the Caterpillars entertained their cousins.

It was a nice visit, and I’m very glad Hubby was able to meet his newest niece.

Lego Bomb

Today CW had a friend over, and it looked like a bomb had gone off in his and B10’s room.

LEGO BOMB GOES KABOOM! (boys sit unaware)

He had a blast though – they traded gaming devices and built walls and had Lego wars, plus pizza rolls and carrots for lunch.

CW and Friend

CW is gearing up for his “big birthday bash” – we’ve told him he can have FIVE friends spend the night….I’m a little nervous now that I’ve made the promise!  I’m lucky they are all great kids!

Lunch

Sister Sheep chowing down on lunch

Hubby worked from home today (a fitting start to his four day weekend), and we decided to do an early lunch for B10’s birthday.

Family Photo!

BooSheep, Brother Sheep and Sister Sheep joined us at Stevie B’s, the last place left to take B10 cheaply…since they will let him eat until he is full!  (And that, mind you, takes a lot of food!)

B10's Nifty Keen Star Wars Book

The Sheeps (I love Sister Sheep's Boots....btw)

Brother Sheep never fails to make me smile.

The Caterpillars and Sheeps also played in the game room for a bit.

Racing on the Arcade Games (I rarely give them actual tokens, so that was a big deal today!)

SKEE BALL!

Brother Sheep wins at Skee Ball!

Aunt CC and the Garden Girls were able to stop by for a minute on their way home to North Carolina.  B10 and CW hadn’t seen them during this trip, so it was nice they got a few minutes together before they left.

Quick Photo of the Cousins who were there.

B10 is getting a “special surprise” later for his birthday – and gets to have friends spend the night in March/April (when school is back in session and people are traveling less).

But this was a nice little lunch.

11 Years Ago Today

11 years ago today – I held a baby boy in my arms for the very first time.

I smoothed his full head of dark hair out of his brown eyes.

I cuddled him close and sang him the hymn that would become “his” song.

I didn’t realize how much you could love a child, until I had one.

Thank you, B10, for making me a Mummy.

Happy 11th Birthday.

Christmas Evening

GO wasn’t feeling overly well, and our intention was to stay at home on Christmas, but the Sheep family made the trek from their home out to Cookie’s house for dinner, and we hopped in the car and made the quick drive over to see them.

GO looking adorable

Cookie had made two different soups, so Hubby and I were able to enjoy Minestrone Soup and chat with Boo Sheep and Uncle Firefighter as the snow fell outside.  And we got to hear about their Christmas Day, which is always fun to hear Brother Sheep tell the stories.

My Favorite Picture of Brother Sheep from Christmas

It was pretty hilarious to watch Brother Sheep, Sister Sheep and GO trying to share all the toys.  They did well, but they rarely play with THESE toys together!

Cookie and the Grandkids

We didn’t stay for long, but it was a pleasant quick dinner, before everyone headed back before the roads became any icier.  Snow on Christmas is fun – but it can be dangerous!  I’m glad we live in the same subdivision as Cookie and Doc, and I’m glad Uncle Firefighter and Boo Sheep are good and careful drivers.

White Christmas

This was Georgia’s first White Christmas since 1882 – a first for GO & Hubby and only the second time I’ve ever had a White Christmas (that I can recall…perhaps the year we lived in Ohio….).

"Daddy! Ice from the SKY!"

Hubby took GO outside, all bundled up, and the two of them really enjoyed it.  We didn’t stay outside long, just enough for Hubby and I to make a few memories and grab a few pictures.

I don't think she remembers "snow"

"Um, where did the ground go?"

I’m dreaming of a pink and purple polka-dotted Christmas!
