Last Day of School

I can hardly believe that we are already to summer.  Last Thursday morning I had a crying little girl (who didn’t WANT to graduate – her teachers/class is that amazing) and a little boy who wasn’t sure what was happening…but it involved his swimsuit, so it must be AWESOME!  We were blessed with spectacular classes this year, I loved being the Room Mum for the littlest kids.  They celebrated with pizza, sand, and water!

And this was a special year – as GO’s teacher has a son, GO’s Room Mum has a son, and I have a son (CW) who were all in Kindergarten together at this school years ago!  That made this year all the more sweeter.  The Kindergarten had a field day, and ice cream sundaes for lunch!

Since last August, we have found a church home…Otto and I have become more sure of our future living situation…we added a new daughter, KB…we prepared to graduate our oldest, OPM, from High School…we have discovered new (and closer) friends…  This has been a wild year, and I am thankful that once again, Bright Beginnings Preschool was so integral in all we did.

HAPPY SUMMER FRIENDS!

Room Mum: Summertime Already?

Okay, it’s not anywhere NEAR summertime, but every once in a while – inspiration strikes at the oddest moment and you just have to RUN with it.

I despise “the Wal-Mark”.  My mother loves it, but I never can find the nice employees (and I KNOW they exist, because they work every shift my mother walks in), and I can’t find the right merchandise, and it’s not going to be signed correctly.  And there’s the business practices we won’t even go into here.  Then there’s the major downside of not having a Starbucks inside.  Or popcorn (yes, Target, I love you for your Starbucks and Popcorn).

But tonight, I had the specific last gift to purchase for my wonderful nephew.  I had put it off, because Amazon didn’t have what I wanted, and it was easier to have my sister on the phone telling me exactly what to get (surprises are fun – making an 8 year old giddy with joy, since you found the RIGHT Skylander is even better).  “The Wal-Mark” was the best place to purchase said Skylander.

Once we got inside, it only made sense to sweep the Christmas Clearance section – so we did a quick walk-through, leaving with one Hello Kitty! sticker book.  But these are the things we pay less than a dollar for, and move on, since the five year old is happy.

At the front, I noticed an odd looking sign – “Clearance”  “$0.25”.  But…the items under the sign…those were NOT $0.25 cent items.  And a bin, marked $2.  NOT $2 items.  Apparently, the local Wal-Mart found about two aisles of leftover School Supplies!  And they were GETTING RID OF STUFF.  I was beside myself.  Otto took Went to the car (he was DUN, D-U-N, DUN!) and GO helped me load the shopping cart with notebook paper and REALLY nice single subject notebooks (the ones with the plastic covers).  The $1-2 items?  LUNCHBOXES!  Really NICE lunchboxes!

And that is when brilliance struck!

See, at the end of the year, it is common to fix up sandbuckets for each child, with summer goodies inside.  This is their “Last Day of School” gift.  I haven’t bought the sandbuckets yet – and when I saw these nice, thermal lunchboxes I was SO EXCITED.  There were enough for each kid in the class – a “Monster” lunchbox.  And I’ll make a cute tag: “We hope you have a Monstrously good summer!”  Inside will go wonderful goodies.

I am SO THRILLED!  This is going to be a unique gift for the kids in the class, and perfect for those summertime snacks to the park.  It was a lucky find, and I’m glad I was able to grab them when I did!

(Oh – and am I the only one this happens to?  I was standing in line, being rung up (which took FOREVER), and in the line next to me was a friend’s husband.  He had NO idea who I was, but I recognized him from photos – and he had two of their three kids with him.  I was so torn, because what I really wanted to do was get his attention and tell him to call his wife, as they homeschool and there were TWO aisles of twenty-five cent school supplies!!!  But I thought he would think that was weird.  Would that have been weird???)

Christmas #2: Cookie and Doc

Cookie and Doc with the Littles

Cookie and Doc with the Littles

Today was one of those great days, where everything went almost exactly like it was suppose to go.  We woke up early and picked up the older girls at 8:30 am.  CAM had a school event all-day (then a sleepover), so we had just enough time to grab a few Christmas gifts, before dropping her off.  Then we spent the morning in Loganville, doing a little shopping at one of my favorite local stores (Boss Brother’s Country Store) and having lunch with the Sheep family (BooSheep was feeling SO much better – she was pretty sick yesterday).

After lunch, we went home and spent almost an hour wrapping gifts.  A few had come in the mail, and we had picked up all but the last two this morning – so it was nice to feel almost finished.  The Littles watched Disney Jr, while OPM enjoyed snuggling on the couch and reading (something she WANTED to read – not a schoolbook).

Our dinner was at our favorite Chinese Restaurant, with Cookie and Doc.  A family dinner is our gift to Doc, he loves to enjoy the grandkids (and truly appreciates being taken out to dinner).  Cookie opened her gift – which, as GO said, was “sparkly…just like her”.

On the way home, we visited one of the best Christmas Light displays in the area, then put the Littles in pajamas and let them watch a goodnight show.  While I stayed with Went and GO, Otto took OPM out for a special froyo treat.  She had been such a huge help all day – and really spent it with the little kids, so it was a blessing to get to gift her with a few moments of “grown-up” time all to herself.

Now the littles are in bed, and OPM, Otto, and I are getting ready to watch one of our mutually favorite shows (the NCIS:LA Christmas Episode).  She hasn’t seen it yet, so Otto and I are excited to get to watch it with her!  A perfect ending to a wonderfully perfect day.

Preschool Christmas Program #2

KindergartenChristmasParty (28)

On the last day of school before break, we had Preschool Christmas Program #2 and the “Happy Birthday Jesus!” Parties.  This program was the two youngest ages (Wee Learn and 2’s), plus Kindergarteners sang solos and had speaking roles.  Otto took today off of work (he was able to see GO’s first program at night, but this program is only during the day).  Cookie came and had both B10 and CW with her.

Yay.  Best Christmas Program Ever.  We all know there is going to be a kid that does it – but it’s so awesome when the kid front and center with a finger up both nostrils (and then eating whatever he finds) is your kid.  😀  Ah well, as long as he’s not doing it at his High School graduation ceremony, it’s all good – right?

After the program, we had “Happy Birthday Jesus!” parties.  Otto and I were at Went’s (I’m his Room Mum), while Cookie went down to GO’s (I popped in a couple of times for pictures and to hug my sweet girl.  School is over as soon as the parties are done, so while I’m all for everyone having fun, I also try to help make sure everything is cleaned up and put away – so the teachers can start their vacation as soon as possible.

Preschool Christmas Program #1

GO had the first Preschool Christmas Program (this is the older kids: 3’s, 4’s, K), that she preformed in.  She and SisterSheep sang the first two verses of “The First Noel” (GO sang the first, then SisterSheep sang the second, while the rest of the older kids sang the chorus).  It was beautiful.  Dressed in Silver and Gold, it’s hard to think that this was their last Christmas program.  I looked back – and had pictures not only of their FIRST Christmas program – but of the first program they ever came and saw (at 11 months old).

Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast

One of the cool things is that while the younger kids have Thanksgiving Feasts in their classroom, the Kindergarten meets together and has a huge family Thanksgiving Feast in one of the larger church rooms.  I really enjoyed seeing GO’s class and hear all the things they are thankful for.  Listening to five and six year olds share the thoughts in their heads was pretty awesome and my favorite part of the system.

Trip to the INK Museum

The Kindergarteners at GO’s school visit the INK Children’s Museum every year.  I was excited to get to go along and take Went with me.  He had a blast, as did GO, SisterSheep, and BrotherSheep.  In fact, it was so much fun, I’ve seriously considered purchasing a membership as a joint Christmas present for GO and Went.

Basically, the Children’s Museum is a “Neighborhood” and the kids can go in and out of various stores and offices.  There is a music shop, dentist office, diner, school, courtroom, hairstylist, grocery store, travel agency (complete with actual plane inside the building), Red Cross building, doctor’s office, playground, bank, and plenty more I can’t remember.  Plus a special area for those age 3 and under.

It is a creative idea for a Children’s Museum, and I loved the little details I saw.  The Caterpillars just loved having plenty of room to explore!
