Walt Disney World Restaurant Review – Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Epcot/Norway)

Our first evening, we attended the Princess Storybook Dining Meal at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway.  I don’t have the patience to fight for a seat in Cinderella’s Castle, nor do I want to pay the double credits it cost from the dining plan.  Especially since I can see FIVE Princesses at one meal here (including Cinderella).  Now, there is not a guarantee of who will attend each night, however – I’ve always had our picture taken with Belle (in her yellow dress) and met Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel (in her land dress), and Sleeping Beauty.  I love that this dinner includes a 6×8 and four 4×6 photos – AND for our size group, we received two packages.  Unless you request differently (and do it quickly, they are moving people through the line fast), the “helper” basically pulled our “Princess” (GO) up to the front and they did a photo package with just her (as the only girl) and then did one of the entire family.  I am SURE they would have done whatever we wanted between the two photo packages (all girls/all boys – Went/GO, then the rest of us, etc).  However, I was thrilled to get this!

The Akershus appetizer is a bar of food that you fix plates from.  There are some salads (again, the dressings were all dairy based), lots of fresh fruit, and a selection of sliced meats and cheeses.  Bread is also at the appetizer bar.

For the meal, B10 chose the Roasted Rack of Lamb, CW asked for the Pan-Seared Salmon, while GO had the Kid’s Meatballs.  All three found the food to be excellent (even if GO was distracted by the Princesses walking around).  My meal was good, however I was disappointed in the potatoes.  They were seasoned deliciously, but stone cold.  Obviously, they had been cooked quite a while ago and sat around.  I think I would have loved them if they had been even slightly warm.

For dessert, the table is brought out a trio of sweets: apple cake with whipped cream topping, rice pudding (no one liked that), and chocolate mousse.  For my allergy dessert, I received a scoop of raspberry sorbet and some cookies (which were taken by the two littles).  Not the greatest dessert, and not a lot of it, but enough for everyone to get a bite.

Finally – these are strictly MY thoughts on the future of Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.  Disney has announced they are changing the Norway ride to be Frozen themed (no timeline set yet).  I believe it would then make sense to have Anna and Elsa be the Princesses to have a photo taken with (replacing Belle) at the Princess Storybook Dining Meal.  It would then become VERY easy to move Belle over to the Be Our Guest restaurant in Magic Kingdom (currently, you only meet the Beast after your meal).  According to the website, Print Packages will no longer be included in the meal price – however, I can’t imagine they are going to stop taking the picture – just charge you separately for the photos.  I suppose we will find out soon!

These are the Princesses we met during our Storybook Dining Evening:

They REALLY take time at each table and focus on each child at the table.

Overall, I give this restaurant a 9 out of 10.  This will consistently be on our list of places to eat in Epcot.
