a C.H.A.O.S. Novel

by Jon S. Lewis

When I selected this book to review, I was expecting something along the lines of a Frank Peretti novel.  Thomas Nelson is a Christian publishing house, so I was anticipating an exciting novel – with a strong Christian storyline.

Well…that’s not exactly what I got.  Invasion is an interesting story about a teenage boy named Colt McAlister who loses his parents to a drunk driver – only it’s really a story about aliens, mega-corporations that want to take over the world and comic books.  Now, I’m a huge science fiction fan, so I ended up enjoying the book, but I was disappointed in it for B10.  I was hoping to have a book that would capture his interest AND relate to God.  (You don’t even find out Colt goes to church until Chapter 42, and very little is said after that.)

It’s a witty book, with the added bonus of being “bad language free”.  There is plenty of violence, but without the graphic details.  The male characters are developed, though Mr. Lewis could work on how he portrays girls.  Danielle and Lily are pretty one-dimensional sidekicks/potential girlfriends.

The book ends rather abruptly, which is disappointing since the second novel isn’t slated to be published until 2012.  I do intend to let B10 read it, along with a few of my D-Group girls (High School Freshmen).  Overall, a nice read, but it could have been so much more.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Sorry this was a letdown, but glad it was a good read – at least mostly. 🙂 LOVE YOU!
