The Actual Surprise – HAGRID!

The big surprise was that Prince was told Wednesday night he was getting out of school for two days (as was Princess) and leaving to go “far away”.  (His 11th Birthday is Friday – Harry Potter fans will understand the significance of this day.)

They drove to a little south of Atlanta, and stopped for breakfast at a McDonald’s – where mysteriously OUR family was already eating!  They “asked for help on their long journey” and we agreed.

We drove all the way to Orlando, and poor Prince had no clue what was going on.  He is the most even-keeled child, never asking questions…just content to let the adults handle it.  B10 and CW would have been bouncing off the walls asking “WHERE ARE WE GOING!”

Lunch was right inside Florida – at the Welcome Center.  Queen and I packed sandwich fixings and I made brownies for the first of many Birthday Desserts for Prince.

As we left, each of the kids received a bag of goodies that Cookie and I had put together.

We arrived at the hotel and the kids went swimming with Hubby and Queen.  King and I did our “Type A” thing and made sure the surprise was ready – AND we had all the info we would need for tomorrow at the park.

At 7:30 pm, we had the kids back in the room – bathed and eating sandwiches for dinner.  Then King put the first Harry Potter movie and they all began watching in their room (we had adjoining rooms).

Right around 8:45 pm the door began shaking as someone POUNDED ON IT!

Then it began opening…

Pink Umbrella and Smushed Cake - it took him SIX hours at the hairdresser to look this awesome!

…and Rubeus Hagrid barged in!

The kids freaked out (in a good way) – and Hagrid played his part to the hilt.  It was amazingly cool.  He brought Prince his Hogwarts letter, a Chocolate Frog, Bertie Botts Beans and the “smashed Birthday Cake”.

(GO just freaked out – her entire body went rigid and she bawled!  I was taking pictures one-handed while cuddling her close with my other hand.)

While eating cake, King confirmed that we would be spending Prince’s 11th Birthday at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (at Islands of AdventureUniversal Orlando).

6 months of planning culminated in a once-in-a-lifetime surprise for one very special 11 year old boy!

What a fun trip!! I have no idea who the scary looking dude is and probably would have cried with GO if he banged on my door, but the kids look thrilled. I am glad the surprise worked out so great!! Boo
